Drug Of Abuse Test

Drug Of Abuse Test

When it comes to drugs, everyone can casually say a few names, such as opium, marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, etc. However, when it comes to drugs, we know very little, and most of our limited knowledge comes from movies and TV dramas, let alone drug testing.
What is a drug?
It refers to opium, heroin, methamphetamine (methamphetamine), morphine, marijuana, cocaine and other narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances controlled by the state that can make people addicted.
How are drugs test?
The principle of drug test strips is similar to that of pregnancy test strips, mainly focusing on qualitative and rapid detection, with the vast majority being colloidal gold lateral chromatography and very few being luminescent products. The test subjects include urine, saliva, blood, and hair.
—-Urine testing is relatively convenient, mainly characterized by speed, convenience, and portability. Currently, it is widely used in individuals, drug rehabilitation hospitals, and public security departments as one of the conventional reagents for drug testing. The longest validity period for urine testing is one week (the best testing time is within three or four days after drug use), so it is possible that a drug addict may have taken the drug a week ago, but the urine test is negative (i.e. no drug use has been detected). However, urine test samples are relatively dirty and sampling is also very awkward. Patients often have a mentality of privacy infringement, and urine samples are also prone to adulteration and swapping. It is necessary to have someone supervise urine collection one-on-one, and urine may also have cross reactions with commonly used legal drugs, which can easily lead to false positive results (positive for drug use), which is relatively complex and troublesome.
—-Saliva testing is more sensitive than urine testing, and it also has the advantages of convenient and fast operation. Compared to urine testing, saliva testing is more easily accepted by the tester, and saliva testing is not limited by location and gender. However, saliva testing also has the characteristics of being dirty and easily contaminated (influenced by food, chewing gum, cigarettes, etc.), which can easily lead to unstable test results and ultimately lead to errors. The premise for easy access to saliva testing is the high level of cooperation of the tester, so it is usually used more frequently in drug testing and driving.
—-Blood testing can compensate for some deficiencies in urine and saliva testing, but it requires higher timeliness because the metabolism of toxic components in blood is very fast. Additionally, due to the high cost of blood testing and the limited availability of testing equipment in a few provincial hospitals, individuals rarely use such testing methods. The final confirmation of drunk driving by traffic police is through blood testing. Although the level of expertise in blood testing is much higher than the first two, if the sample cannot be tested for a long time after blood collection, it is likely that the sample cannot be used.
—-Hair testing, where samples are easy to collect and store, and drugs remain stable in the hair for several months, can accurately reflect the subject’s drug use situation. However, hair processing is difficult and difficult to promote and use.
