Mother’s Day originated in ancient Greece. On January 8th, ancient Greeks pay tribute to Hera, the mother of the gods in Greek mythology, with the aim of remembering our mother and her greatness, and inheriting Chinese virtues. In ancient Rome, the tribute ceremony was even more grand, lasting for three days. But what’s different is that in ancient times, the reverence for mothers was mostly a continuation of the maternal clan’s reverence for nature, which is very different from today’s praise of mothers.
In the mid-17th century, Mother’s Day spread to England, and the British celebrated the fourth Sunday of Lent as Mother’s Day. On this day, young people who are out will return home and bring some small gifts to their mothers.
Mother’s Day in modern society originated in the United States. On May 9, 1905, the mother of Miss Anna Garvis passed away in Philadelphia, United States. In her grief, she recalled the hardships her mother had brought up their sisters, and initiated the idea of establishing a festival to let children express their love for their mothers. On the occasion of the anniversary of her mother’s death, Miss Garvis proposed the establishment of Mother’s Day and gave speeches everywhere, wrote pamphlets, and even wrote letters to many prominent figures in the United States and even to the President. Her actions moved society. On May 7, 1914, US President Wilson approved a bill in Congress to designate the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day each year. The establishment of Mother’s Day has not only been supported by the American people, but also recognized by people all over the world. At present, according to international practice, Mother’s Day is set on May 11 every year. Many countries, such as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Türkiye, Australia, Belgium, etc., will choose to celebrate Mother’s Day in May. Mother’s Day has become a festival celebrated by people all over the world.
Who is the mother?
Mother is the one who gives you life, the one who raised you to adulthood.
Mother is the one who teaches you to crawl, teaches you to walk, and protects you as you move forward.
My mother is a skilled chef.
My mother is also a strongman.
A mother is someone who can come and hold you in her arms and comfort you as long as you need it, no matter how old you are or where you are.
“I heard that God cannot be everywhere, so I created Mom. At Mom’s age, Mom is still Mom’s guardian deity. The word ‘Mom’ is just a name that touches the heartstrings.”
